CHOCTAW

It is a Pecan variety developed as a result of the cross between Mahan, one of the largest fruited Pecan Nuts, and Success variety. It started to be tested for the first time in 1946 and was offered to manufacturers in America in 1959. It was brought to our country via Israel in the 1970s. It has been planted abundantly in many commercial pecan gardens in our country in the past years and is still widely used today. It is very efficient. It starts to show fruit in the 3rd year. It has large and attractive fruits. Their shells are thin. For this reason, it has become one of the most popular varieties in our country, like Mahan. Internal efficiency is around 58-65%, it has brightly colored and delicious fruits. The number of fruits in 1 kg of shelled Choctaw; If 60-75, the quality is very good, 75-90 is good, Above 90 means underweight. You can evaluate the product accordingly. The tree tends to grow continuously upwards and sideways. Since the harvest time is late (1-2 weeks in November), it is more suitable for the coastal regions of the Mediterranean and Aegean. 10% of our Own Gardens are Choctaw. Choctaw is a high-maintenance variety. For this reason, we recommend it for gardens with plenty of water. Otherwise, there may be problems with the internal filling and size of the fruits. If good irrigation is not done and sufficient Nitrogen is not given, the fruits may be very small. In this case, manufacturers may encounter sales problems. Due to its easy breaking and internal efficiency, it is one of the most popular varieties not only in our country but all over the world.
DISADVANTAGES OF CHOCTAW
There is a periodicity problem since the 10th year. In other words, one year will be fruitful and full of fruits. The next year the yield is low or the fruits are empty or less full. Another disadvantage is that its yield is lower than many commercial varieties. If thinning is done in summer when the fruit sets a lot, internal filling problems will be minimized.
