Pikan-Cevizi-Kanza

Kanza is one of the highest quality Pecan Nut Varieties suitable for cold climates. It is one of the varieties brought to Turkey by Tropikmeyveci Fidancılık in 2010 and brought to our country. Currently Bandırma Fidan A.Ş. It is produced jointly with. It has become a variety in special demand by consumers with its excellent fruit quality, easy breaking and thin skin. One fruit weighs approximately 7.8 grams and its internal yield is around 54%. Therefore, there are approximately 125-130 shelled fruits in 1 kg. In years with excessive fruit set, fruit weight decreases to around 6 grams, but fruit quality is always at the highest level. The crossbreeding of 'Major', one of the smallest and highest quality Pecan Nuts, with the round and medium sized Shoshoni variety was offered to producers in America in 1996. It is one of the Pecan Nuts with the earliest harvest date. Approximately September 3-4. It comes to harvest in weeks. Canza is not very productive in the first 10 years, it has an average yield. But it is very productive after the 10th year. Kanza is a very strong tree. It has a central leadership structure and can reach gigantic sizes. Type 2 is a variety whose female flowers bloom first. Varieties such as Pawnee No. 4 can be used as pollinators. I would like to specifically point out here so that it is not misunderstood; Kanza is not just a pollinator variety. A garden can also be established with Type 1 varieties such as Kanza as the main variety and Pawnee as pollinators. The more pollinators the better, but generally there should be at least 10% pollinator varieties in the garden. Unlike walnut gardens, in Pecan walnut gardens, both the main variety and the pollinator varieties bear fruit. In other words, mutual pollination takes place.

Since Kanza is a very strong tree, it grows quickly. During our observations in our gardens, we saw that branches broke due to wind, especially in mid-June. For this reason, Kanza trees should be pruned by tipping them in mid-June. Kanza Trees are one of the species most resistant to cold climates. The female flowering period is the first week of May in most regions. In our observations so far, Kanza has suffered almost no damage in areas where Chandler type walnuts are exposed to frost damage. We have successfully tested it in Eastern Anatolia, Central Anatolia and the inner parts of the Aegean region and Thrace until 2022. We predict that it will be a much sought-after variety in the coming years, despite its small fruit, due to its internal quality, taste and breaking easily. The use of Kanza seeds in the production of saplings suitable for cold climates provides the tree with extra resistance to cold. In our country, Kanza is used only by Tropikmeyveci Fidancılık (together with Bandırma Fidan A.Ş.) as a rootstock suitable for cold climates. Rapeseed trees are naturally resistant to many diseases, especially diseases such as anthracnose. We have not encountered any serious problems in our gardens so far. It has a very strong tree structure and needs to be pruned with a central leader pruning system.
